A guide to layering Skincare

A guide to layering Skincare

We love simple skincare routines, so we’ve developed a couple of go-to products that will easily fit in your skincare regimen. But what if you have many products sitting on your bathroom shelf and sometimes no idea which order to apply them in? Here’s a little guide to in which order to apply your products  - including your Fais Botanicals go-to’s - without overloading your skin.

Whilst you should, of course, monitor your own skin and see what’s best for you, there are some simple guidelines you can follow to make it just a little less daunting. The first rule of thumb is: apply products from thinnest to thickest in texture. Because imagine that if you apply a really thick face cream first, it will block your pores for the thinner products to penetrate.

Cleansing
It’s important to create a blank canvas for your skincare routine, so remove your makeup and wash your face before using any other of your products. For the ingredients to properly absorb, you need clean skin that's free of grime. Our Cleanse It Oil to Lather Facial Cleanser makes for a great first cleanse and will break down dirt, makeup and sun screen whilst gently cleansing and nourishing your skin. You can follow up with a foam cleanser of your choice if you wish.

Toning
A toner will remove excess dirt, traces of oil and makeup, correct and balance the pH of your skin, and help control acne. It will help remove dead skin cells and clean and close pores, and so it's especially beneficial for acne-prone skin. There are many toners on the market - from completely plant based ones to toners containing acids and exfoliants - so make sure that you pick the right one for your skin type and concerns.

Serums
Serums come in many shapes and forms and are lightweight and contain high concentrations of actives. So depending on what skin concerns you are addressing, be it improving skin tone, fighting signs of ageing and so on, serums are your holy grail of addressing those issues.

Face cream or/and facial oil
The last step of your skincare routine should be moisturising/nourishing skin.
Creams are lighter in texture than facial oils and so need to be used first. You can use a face cream and then layer your facial oil over the top. Using a facial oil at night time will allow it to properly absorb and work its magic over night. Our range of facial oils is perfect to be used as the last step of your skincare routine. The essential oil blends that the facial oils are infused with will help you to relax and unwind before bed time.

And remember - what’s right for everyone else might not be right for you. Observe your skin and try to be in touch with what it needs right now.
