Ingredient Spotlight: Fractionated Coconut Oil
‘Fractionated coconut’ what? Fractionated coconut oil! This derivative of coconut is a luxurious version of virgin coconut oil and one of our favourite skincare ingredients.
But what’s the difference to virgin coconut oil? Both are deeply moisturising and nourishing to the skin and both are naturally processed (extracted without the use of chemicals) so they contain plenty of nutrients and antioxidants.
What differs is the manufacturing process and the texture. Fractionated coconut oil is virgin coconut oil that has been distilled, allowing long-chain fatty acids to separate and solidify for removal. What remains is a very light, odourless coconut oil that stays liquid at cooler temperatures.
Unlike other vegetable carrier oils, fractionated coconut oil leaves skin feeling silky and smooth without a greasy residue. And because it’s so fast absorbent, it’s perfect as a carrier oil for use in Aromatherapy. It allows the essential oils to penetrate deeply into skin and unfold their properties to the maximum.
We use fractionated coconut oil in our ‘Kiss it’ Lip & Skin Balm formula because we love the sumptuous, creamy texture it gives our product.
